Albums
The discography of the American rock group Toto includes 13 studio albums, 4 live albums, and a number of compilations. In addition to the release of original music, Toto has also done work with other artists and on soundtracks for films. The group has won multiple Grammy Awards.
Before the formation of Toto the band, members performed session work for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session percussionist Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs 1975 album Silk Degrees. The group's collaboration led to the formation of Toto in 1976.
The band's third album, Turn Back, marked an abrupt departure from the progressive sound of their earlier albums and was criticized for the lack of hit singles. In 1985 the group's lead singer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from the group, and the group held auditions for a new frontman. The band chose guitarist Steve Lukather, and recorded Fahrenheit in 1986.
In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by scouring through old tapes and demos to release a special record called Toto XX. The album was well-received by fans and the band went on a tour with former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro, and Joseph Williams.
In the course of the tour for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun the drummer Leland Sklar quit the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released the double-CD set Falling in Between. It included recordings from the tour and also an interview with the group.
